Opening of FabLab at COMSATS University, Lahore Campus

By the grace of Almighty Allah (SWT), the Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) has been established at the Lahore Campus of CUI under the TAKEUP Project of Erasmus+ program.

The Lab was formally inaugurated on 3^rd November 2023 by Professor Dr Syed Asad Hussain, Director Lahore Campus. A graceful inauguration ceremony was held in the Seminar Hall of the A Block in which the academic and administrative leadership, including, Dean, Chairmen, HoDs, and faculty members of Lahore Campus were present.

In a detailed opening presentation, Professor Dr Muhammad Ahmed Farooqui, Founder Coordinator TAKEUP project and former Head of Academics and Research, provided a comprehensive background, purpose and potential benefits of the FabLab to the audience. He explained the need to promote entrepreneurial culture in Pakistani Academia and emphasized on the use of FabLab which is a place for innovation, creativity, learning, mentoring, and making (almost) anything. He encouraged the students and faculty members to visit FabLab and make plans for how to take advantage of this facility. He informed the audience that FabLab has been established with zero cost to the COMSATS University.

Dr Imran Hassan Naqvi, In-charge FabLab, apprised the audience about the available equipment and the SoPs of the Lab. He explained the uses and the potential applications of the equipment in innovation and prototyping.

In his inaugural address, Professor Dr Asad Hussain, appreciated the efforts and dedicated hard work of Dr Farooqui and his team for successfully establishing the Fab Lab. He congratulated him and his team and advised the academic leadership of Lahore campus to promote creativity and innovation among the students and junior faculty members for which the FabLab can play an impactful role.
